Phase I will focus on the creation of the tracking barcodes and applying them to each mail piece.
During this phase the vendor should provide the company with tools and development support for internal tracking barcode assignment and management whether the customer chooses to use PLANET Code or 4 State barcode tracking symbology. The software and assistance provided should assit in the generation and application step.
The first step is to identify all mail streams which will be tracked. Once they have been identified, a sample of both paper and electronic versions along with processes used to create them will need to be collected and reviewed. All of the mail streams identified should be reviewed for space both on the document and the envelope window.
The second step is where a recommended design will be developed. This design will work to minimize the cost of the transition while new test runs of each print stream should be created both electronically and on paper. This will test the complete processing from documents composition, printing, insertion, to sortation.
